ARTIST STATEMENT
My father introduced me to photography; the alchemy
of a high school darkroom class hooked me for life. I
am largely self-taught - inspired by the quality of light, color,
and composition in 17th century Dutch paintings; the forced perspective
and real/surreal illustrations of natural history dioramas; and
the lyrical beauty of Andy Goldsworthy's ephemeral sculpture. I
feel like a painter but in the absence of skill with a painter's
tools, I use my camera to brush into life on film my own powerful
feelings and emotions.
