DESERT TRACES

A High Desert Test Sites 2013 site-specific installation.

On Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land just East of Kingman, AZ. DESERT TRACES site markers, field guides, and tents gave the impression of a sanctioned camp site, where visitors to the event were encouraged to camp overnight on October 14 to document the surroundings with camera, audio recording, and needle and thread. By October 20, all physical evidence had vanished; metadata and geolocation disappeared as well, in an attempt to extend the backcountry guidelines of Leave No Trace into the non-physical realm.

High Desert Test Sites is a non-profit organization that supports immersive experiences and exchanges between artists, critical thinkers, and general audiences – challenging all to expand their definition of art to take on new areas of relevancy.
